Procedure for the evaluation and accreditation of professional skills
The evaluation and accreditation of professional skills consist of a set of actions aimed at evaluating and officially recognising abilities acquired through work experience or non-formal training.
These are the main purposes of the procedure:
- Improving professional skills and their accreditation, considering workers’, society’s, corporate and sectorial qualification needs, in order to promote lifelong learning.
- Encouraging equal opportunity through the accreditation of professional skills, as well as through basic, transversal or non-formal training.
- Enabling workers to validate their non-formal or informal training to boost their career, promoting job placement and free movement in the labour market.
- Motivating people to keep learning, offering them opportunities to assess their skills and thus obtain a cumulative partial Certificate of Professional Competence. The ultimate goal is to allow them to finish their training and get a complete certificate or a VET diploma.
The skills assessment is done through a structured process aimed at verifying whether the applicant’s abilities meet the criteria established by the National Catalogue for Professional Qualifications. This procedure, the established requirements and the effects of the skills accreditation are valid in Spain.
